These rule changes will also be available on the Supreme Court’s website at www.courts.state.va.us. The Guidelines and User’s Manual referenced in the rules will be available on the website in mid – to late – May 2015.

Effective January 3, 2012, the possession of cellular phones and other electronic recording and wireless communication devices will be prohibited in the Court Room of the Charlottesville Circuit Court while court is in session. This prohibition will not apply to licensed attorneys and their staff provided the devices remain de-activated until activation is approved by the Court. Use of audio-visual equipment for selected cases will be permitted upon advance approval by the Court.
Violation of this prohibition may result in the seizure and confiscation of the device in question and a finding of contempt, with attendant punitive sanctions imposed where appropriate upon the offending party.
